Introduction to Galaxies and Cosmology, 6 hp

Introduktion till galaxer och kosmologi, 6 hp (6 ECTS)

First level, Full time

This course gives an introduction to modern astrophysics with emphasis on larger scales, in particular galaxies and cosmology. You will get basic knowledge about the physics of stars as this is the base for the understanding of galaxies and observational cosmology. Topics of the course are general relativity versus Newtonian mechanics, redshift, the expansion of the Universe and the structure and dynamics of galaxies. Important throughout the course is the connection to modern observations such as the cosmic microwave background radiation.
