General Relativity, 7.5 hp
Allmän relativitetsteori, 7.5 hp (7.5 ECTS)
Second level, Part time
Einstein’s theory of gravity, general relativity, was one of the most important milestones in the history of physics. General relativity is regarded as a basic theory for all of physics while being itself an object of intense study. Its key feature is the description of gravity as a manifestation of the curvature of space and time. It has now entered everyday life via the GPS navigation system, whose accuracy depends on adjustment of time readings of satellite clocks to take into account the spacetime curvature caused by the earth. Topics in this introductory course include the Einstein field equations, the GPS system, experimental tests, black holes and gravitational radiation.
