Global nutrition, 7.5 hp (7.5 ECTS)

The course covers public health nutrition problems and possible solutions to those health and nutrition issues that are of special concern in low- and middle income countries. Topics that are discussed are the relationship between culture, food production, water, and hygiene. Catastrophy nutrition and situtations of nutrient deficiency are also addressed. Some practical excercises are included in the course. The student will also be trained in approaching public health nutrition in a scientific way by doing a literature search and collect evidence in a relevant area. The purpose of this project is to learn how preventive work is conducted.

The abovementioned knowledge is central in all health promotion work, and particularly in work that requires a deeper understanding of global health problem.
