Cartography and Map Design, 15 hp

Kartografi och kartdesign, 15 hp (15 ECTS)

First level, Part time

You learn how a map should be designed to fulfil its purpose. The theoretical part of the course deals with design, typography, colours, layout, generalization, graphic technique and map law. Substantial parts of the course deals with practical exercises and assignments. You should purchase a student license of the drawing software OCAD (75 Euro for 2 years) to perform these exercises, although other software could be used (check with the instructor). After completion of the course you will be able to organise map production and make professional maps, both advanced printed map products and maps as illustrations in scientific reports.
