The Institute for Interpretation and Translation Studies (TÖI) offers different programmes and courses for those who wish to become interpreters or translators.
Interpreters work with communication between individuals, who do not share the same language. Interpretation between Swedish and other languages can for example take place in contacts with public authorities, within international organisations and companies as well as in the context of conferences. An interpreter normally works on a free-lance basis and is usually engaged through an agency to work for a public authority, an organisation or a company.
The Institute for Interpretation and Translation Studies also offers programmes and courses for translators, who work with written communication. Translators are engaged by both public authorities and in the commercial sector. Most translators work on a free-lance basis for major companies, publishers, in film and television or for private individuals. Many translators have their own companies and accept commissions directly from their clients or through translation agencies.
The Institute offers courses in translation at both basic and advanced level. Programmes are only offered at advanced level. The Institute also arranges courses that provide further training for professional interpreters and translators.
