The study programme in social work speciality social pedagogy leads to a bachelor’s degree with your major subject social work. During this course of education you will also study sociology, law, psychology, political science and social policy. You will delve deeply into issues concerning different cultural environments and international perspectives of relevance for social work. Significant points of departure are theories of human behaviour, social systems, and people’s interaction with their environment. An integral part of the course is supervised practice, which it is possible to carry out also in other countries than Sweden. Social work graduates are a professional group in great demand. After the completed program, you will be able to work with children, young people and adults on the individual, group and societal levels. The course is profiled for different forms of social work treatment and instigation of processes of change, along with preventive work. Social education deals with persons in socially vulnerable life situations and with how to offer individuals and groups the support they need to develop their resources and change their situations. As a social work graduate specialized in social education you can work with social services daytime activities, in institutions for children, youth or adults, or in services that offer e.g. help to dysfunctional families or substance abusers. Psychiatry and treatment of criminal offenders are other possible fields, along with social programs run by private or voluntary bodies. Examples of professional roles are treatment specialist, field worker and project manager/project leader. Further information can be obtained from the student counsellor at the Department of Social Work.
