Master's Programme in Biology
This programme is a great opportunity to gain a broad education and develop your own direction. You can choose courses in biology covering subjects from cell and molecular biology through to ecology and behaviour. You can also develop a multidisciplinary education by combining other subjects, including the humanities and social sciences.

Programme overview
The Master’s programme in Biology gives you the possibility to choose between more than 20 different biology courses covering the entire range of biology subjects offered. You are required to complete a degree project, and 30 credits from the list of elective courses. The flexible nature of the programme allows up to 60 credits of optional courses, which can be courses in other subject areas such as law or economics.

Independent project
Degree projects are carried out in ongoing research projects within one of the Biology departments at Stockholm university. It is also possible to conduct the degree project externally, at a research institute, organisation or company.

How to apply
The Master's programme in Biology is only open for application in the first round, with deadline for applications in mid-January.
The Biology programme requires a Bachelor's degree and a broad background in biology, covering all the main fields: Cell and Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Ecology and Physiology. These should amount to a minimum of one year's full time studies (60 ECTS credits).
Selection process
Additional eligibility criteriaApplicants that meet the eligibility requirements are ranked based on their merit rating. Only students with the highest merit ratings are selected for our programmes. The merit rating is based on the following four selection criteria, with equal weight:
- relevance of previous studies in relation to the programme
- grades of academic courses
- motivation letter
- research ideas
