Geologists, Geochemists and Geophysicists study the Earth, how it was formed and how it changes with time. Geochemistry and geophysics focus on the chemical and physical processes that shape our Earth, govern its climate, oceans and environment, and form a basis for life. We offer courses about minerals and rocks, evolution of life, formation and evolution of seas and mountains, plate tectonics, volcanism and earthquakes, as well as the chemical cycles which determine Earth’s changing climate. Our more advanced courses focus on ongoing research at our Department in Marine Geology, Geochemistry and classical Geology. Geology, Geochemistry and Geophysics should not only be experienced in a lecture room but also in the laboratory and in the field. For this reason, we complement our courses with excursions, field studies and laboratory projects. Geologists, geochemists and geophysicists find employment both nationally and internationally. Or graduates have been hired in mining and exploration companies, building and construction firms, oil companies, marine industries, consultancy firms, seafloor mapping, local and regional planning bodies as well as universities. Our graduate program in geology, geochemistry and geophysics 180 credit is within the geological sciences discipline. Many of our courses are taught in English and although some of our courses are taught in Swedish, we cater to both English and Swedish speaking students.

Science and mathematics help us understand how the world around us is connected – from the origin and structure of the universe, to the development and function of humanity and all other organisms on earth. Scientific knowledge makes it possible to critically examine the credibility of information in different areas of everyday life, society, and the media. As a scientist or mathematician, you will be attractive on a large job market that covers all parts of society and includes everything from pure technology companies to environment and healthcare, as well as research.
