This Master`s Programme – Swedish School of Environmental Chemistry, SSEC – offers an advanced education in environmental chemistry, in close co-operation between Stockholm University and Umeå University. The programme will provide in-depth knowledge of inorganic and organic environmental contaminants; their structure, function, sources and emissions, distribution, transformation and fate in the environment. The first semester you study theoretical, analytical and practical aspects of environmental chemistry in Umeå. The second semester, in Stockholm, includes courses about the chemistry of organic pollutants and about risk assessment of environmental contaminants. The second year the education comprises a choice of eligible courses in Stockholm and Umeå, including a master thesis project focusing on environmental chemistry. After having completed your education you should be able to characterize and assess environmental risks from a chemical perspective. Furthermore, you will have acquired a good basis for postgraduate studies in environmental chemistry at both Umeå University and Stockholm University, as well as at other universities. You will also have good chances of a professional career in the area of environmental chemistry, not least internationally.
