Environmental issues are complex, intertwined with other policy areas and often require a broad analysis to identify potential solutions. The Master’s Programme will employ different approaches for environmental analysis involving environmental databases, cartography, remote sensing, geographical analysis as well as conceptual and practical modelling and relate the use of these to real worldpolicy, planning and management issues. Uniquely, the programme is a co-operative Masters programme between Dept. of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology, Stockholm University, Stockholm, Sweden and The Institutet of Environmental Science and Management, University of Latvia, Riga, Latvia. The successful candidate will be awarded a degree from both universities.

This master programme will articulate learning outcome in several fields, for example remote sensing, geographic information systems, explorative data analysis and visualisation, methods for environmental empact analysis, environmental managment as well as methods for modelling.

The programme is based on course modules at both universities and will confer a degree from both universities. Mandatory 15 ETCS modules are: Applied Environmetal Monitoring and Modelling (SU), Geographic Analysis and Visualisation in GIS (SU), Environmental Management (UL), one of either Environmental Planning and EIS (UL) or Integrated Costal Zone Planning (UL) and a Degree Project cours of 30–60 ETCS. Depending on the size of the degree project there is scope for courses of free choice up to 30 ETCS.
