This Master of Science program addresses students wanting to develop future IT products and services and critically reflect upon how humans perceive, use and appropriate IT products and services for his/her work- and daily conditions. It has a focus on principles for analysis, design and construction of IT products and services. It includes typical interactive services for personal use and co-operation. For instance design of services for communication (such as e-mail, SMS, chat, and video), gaming and gaming experiences, e-business and educational services. These services require that products both in hard- and software are continuously improved. Because IT products and services constitute a natural part of human work, family life, social activities, pleasure and culture it is of great importance to put “The Human” in centre of the development of these artifacts.

The master program consists of a unique combination of subjects that bring together two crucial aspects of user centered design: 1) design of, and 2) critical reflection regarding development of IT products and services.

The focus on the development of IT products and services provides the student with knowledge and skills in the use of HCI methods (observation, brain- and body storming, personas, prototyping, etc.) as well as the use of various tools (Flash, Director, etc.). The focus on critical reflection provides the student with analytical conceptual tools and skills to use in analysis and design of IT products and services, as well as in the study of their use and appropriation. The master program also includes preparatory courses for postgraduate studies, including philosophy of science, scientific communication, and research methodology.

The content and structure of the master program enables the student to pursue individual interests and to shape an individual profile within the area. Career opportunities are found within industry and public sector as well as within research.
