The International Master’s Programme in Art History provides an opportunity to acquire deepened empirical and theoretical knowledge in art history. Particular focus is placed on developing skills that enable the students to navigate the international art historical field, within the academy, museums, or related professional areas. The programme will be launched in the autumn semester 2017.
Courses, assignments, and examinations within the programme are designed to develop the student’s ability to communicate art historical research through a range of media, such as academic articles, conference papers, and exhibitions. The programme has a pronounced international profile and English is the main language in lectures and seminars. As a student on the programme, you are also encouraged to locate and specify elements of the education, such as electives and internship abroad. The teachers and supervisors will assist you in developing networks, as well as to participate in international conferences and workshops. The theoretical and empirical subject matters treated in the courses are also characterised by international and global perspectives.
Within the frame of the programme, there are opportunities to individually customise the education, i.e. through electives. Together with your supervisor, you develop an individual curriculum; a plan that is updated each semester.
The programme offers knowledge and skills adapted for work in an international art historical field, within the academy, in museums, or in other spheres that demand deepened art historical knowledge and skills. It provides formal qualification and a good foundation for postgraduate studies (PhD).
The International Master’s Programme in Art History comprises four semesters of full-time studies (120 ECTS credits), divided into mandatory courses (52,5 ECTS credits), elective courses and internship (22,5 ECTS credits), and a master’s thesis (45 ECTS credits).

How are different cultures created and how do they affect us? Arts and Humanities is an area of interest that includes a wide variety of subjects such as Archaeology, Philosophy, History, Religion, Ethnology, Literature, and Theatre and Performance Studies. In one way or another these subjects are an expression of how culture affects human beings and society. As a student you will improve your analytical skills and learn to identify different lines of development, often in an interdisciplinary context. Studies within Arts and Humanities give you broad general competence that is very useful in the job market, where autonomy, analytical and communication skills are in great demand.
