The two-year programme provides students with critical approaches to understand and analyse fashion from different perspectives. The first year addresses issues regarding representations of fashion in art, photography, literature, film, advertising and material objects. Fashion is examined from a historical perspective that embraces its effects on social discourses and its contribution to the industrial revolution. It is also analysed as a material culture and its relationship to different consumer culture theories. The first year is concluded by a final thesis where students display their understanding of a chosen research topic.

The second year of the Programme widens student’s field of research and features syllabus-based courses, individual supervision of thesis work and thesis-in-progress seminars. Students demonstrate the synthesis of their field of research by independently writing a Master’s thesis. This research paper is an array of methodological and theoretical approaches that prepare students for an academic career or for other occupations.
