Masterprogram i modevetenskap, 120 hp

The two-year programme provides students with critical approaches to understand and analyse fashion from different perspectives. The first year addresses issues regarding representations of fashion in art, photography, literature and advertising. Moral and social discourses on fashion as well as the meaning of fashion in cultural practices constitute another important theme. The role of the industrial revolution in the creation of a fashion system is also examined along with different consumer culture theories. The first year is concluded by a final thesis where students display their understanding of a chosen research topic.

The second year of the programme widens student’s field of research and features syllabus-based courses, individual supervision of thesis work and thesis-in-progress seminars. Students demonstrate the synthesis of their field of research by independently writing a Master¹s thesis. This research paper is an array of methodological and theoretical approaches that prepare students for an academic career or for other occupations.
