The aim of this course is to foster understanding of modern oral and written Danish in a sociolinguistic context. The course examines the present-day language stituation and language policy in Denmark. The main focus of the course is on texts and discussions that are central to today’s social life. In this context, students learn about standard Danish, as well as linguistic variations in Danish that are connected to origin, religion, social class, age and gender. Analysis materials are taken from Danish newspapers, advertisements, TV, films and online media sources.
